Dave was the first ever Chairman of Georgia House Military Affairs. The purpose of this committee was to ensure Georgia is the most military friendly state in the nation in order to prevent the military from closing any of our bases.

Georgia has the 5th highest military population in America with an economic impact of over $28 Billion every year. Our 8 military bases employ over 108,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines – as well as a third of a million civilians. Georgia has over 750,000 veterans and we have the 2nd highest percentage of young people who volunteer to serve in our armed forces of any state.

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce has identified our military bases as some of the only economic engines in Georgia’s poor, rural areas. With so much at stake, its vitally important that we keep all of Georgia’s valuable bases.

Through the efforts of Dave’s committee, the House has passed 34 new laws over the last few years and dedicated over $100M to help our military. He also co-sponsored legislation that created the permanent joint (House and Senate) Georgia Defense Commission. He also worked with the Department of Education to create the Military Flagship Award program for schools that do a good job taking care of our military children.
