When Dave ran for office 4 years ago, he had three main objectives:

1.     Communication

2.   Discipline

3.   Curriculum

Communication has greatly increased – in no small part due to Dave’s monthly “Belton Bulletins.” Discipline is markedly better due to the reforms Dave
called for. And the IB and AP curriculum are 2^nd to none in a Georgia school system our size.

Here are some of our accomplishments during the past 4 years:

·        The 2011 budget near 2007 level at approximately $24.5 million

o       $4.9 million less than 2009

o       $3.8 million less than 2008

o       Reduced two years in a row

·        Lowest expenditure per student in region ($8,382 vs. $8,600)

·        Highest expenditure rate on actual instruction in region (75% vs. 67%)

• Less spent on Central Administration in region (2.6% vs. 4.9%)

• The Primary, Elementary, and Middle School did better on the state-wide CRCT test than ever before.
  • Like last year, they beat the state in every single category.
  • They raised their “exceeds standards” in nearly every category.
  • They improved their scores in 26 out of 40 categories.

• The Primary School scored above 91% in every CRCT category.

• Elementary School scored the best in the CRCT in the entire region!
  • They scored above 90% in every category (except for three categories where they scored 87%).
  • Best PTO in the Nation (2002)

• The Middle School continues to make the greatest CRCT gains.
  • They scored above 92% in Math and English.
  • Lighthouse School of Excellence Award (2009)

• MCHS was named 545^th out of the 1500 top best schools in America by Newsweek, placing them in the top 2-3% of all high schools in America.

• Dr. Mark Wilson named best high school principal in the entire nation!

• MCHS had a 60% college credit pass rate in the International Baccalaureate program.

• AP pass rates have increased by 700%.
  • 20% of their sophomores - even freshman - are taking AP classes.
  • Many juniors already have 3 college courses under their belt!

• Combining AP and IB scores, 30% of their students who took a college-level test got college credit.

• 37% of MCHS seniors took at least one college-level course.
  • 21% of MCHS seniors got college credit.
    • Better than GA (16%) and the nation (15%).

• MCHS graduation rate higher than it’s ever been at 87%.
  • Better than the state at 78%.
  • Better than the nation at 70%.
  • MCHS also had the highest percentage ever (82%) of graduates who either went to college or the military.

• Voluntary random drug testing has been a great success.
  • 20% of the student population was tested.
  • 97.3% of students were clean.

• Discipline markedly improved.
  • Hearings down by 20%.
  • Disrespect to teachers has been halved.
  • Zero weapon violations.

·        Demographics

o       $28,400 average income

o       10% of families below poverty line.

o       31% minority

o       75% of our kids eat school lunch

o       46% are on free or reduced meals – program pays for itself.
